This is the surgical destruction of tissue areas through the use of monopolar or bipolar diathermy current. It is used for haemostasis during the ablation and coagulation of tumours, as deep coagulation for the destruction of organs, e.g. the pituitary gland, or for endoscopic surgery, etc.
